Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding the General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Maxim Mitrofanov, with the medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" of the 2nd degree. The corresponding document was published on the website of official legal information.

The award was presented to Mitrofanov for his contribution to the development of physical education and sports, as well as for his long-term work and professional performance of duties.

Mitrofanov has been the General Secretary of the RFU since 2022. Previously, in the football federation, he served as deputy head of the committee for security and interaction with football fans, head of the football development program, and also headed the department for strategic issues of the organization. Before joining the RFU, Mitrofanov headed the St. Petersburg football club Zenit for ten years (2007-2017).

Earlier, MK v Pitere wrote that Zenit’s young footballers won the Akinfeev Cup for the first time.
